Macau is officially part of the People's Republic of China. It is located at the southern part of China. Macau has a small land area compared to mainland China but is considered as one of the most progressive city in the country. It has a long history regarding its sovereignty being under the Portuguese as early as the 1500s. As a result, Macau is rich with both Chinese and Portuguese cultures expressed in its infrastructure, languages, and people.

According to history, Macau was said to be rented out to some Portugal merchants in the early 1500s to serve as a center of trade in the area. Longer than the Spanish colonization of the Philippines, Macau was under Portugal's sovereignty for over 400 years before China took over again in the mid-1970s. Portugal's influences remain alive in Macau as Portuguese is still considered as their official language along with Cantonese. It is also named as the Las Vegas of the East because it houses high-end Casinos and world-class gambling centers.

Tourists also find it fascinating how European architecture is expressed in Macau's buildings and churches. One of the most famous architecture ruins in Macau is St. Paul's Cathedral which is over a century-old today. Also famous is The Grand Canal Shopping Center which offers a European experience like that in Italy where you can ride the gondola and cruise through the canal inside the Venetian Resort Hotel.

A vacation in Macau also entails you to taste the sumptuous local dishes in the area. Their dishes are mainly Cantonese cooking with Portuguese influences. The most popular snack in Macau are the egg tarts that are believed to be a Portuguese delicacy. In Portugal, they have this local delicacy called the Pastel de Nata which the Macau Egg Tarts were said to have been originated. Nevertheless, Macau still offers so many sumptuous foods that you should not miss! Come to Macau now and enjoy the very best of Asian and European fusion!
