Hong Kong Tours: A Day Trip to Victoria Peak

Travel to HongKong

Victoria Peak, or simply "the Peak", as it is more popularly known, is one of Hong Kong's most popular tourist attractions, offering those stunning postcard views of the metropolis for which Hong Kong is so much known all over the world. Most visitors arrive to the Peak by the Peak Tram, and while this historic tram is certainly one of Hong Kong must dos, as well as one of the world's most scenic rides, there are other exciting ways to get to the peak... This article will take you to a somewhat different day trip to Victoria Peak.

Our day starts in Central, from where we take bus No. 15 to the Peak: The bus leaves once every 10 minutes, from 6am till midnight, and has stops next to Star Ferry Terminus, as well as at the bus terminus of Exchange Square (if coming from Central MTR station), and in Admiralty (Next to MTR Admiralty, exit C-1).

Our first destination is Bowen Road: Drop off at the bus stop next to the Hong Kong Adventist Hospital, on Stubbs Road, and walk down to the small roundabout, just a few steps below the stop, from where you can enter the pedestrian's only street.

Winding through lush woods in Mid-Levels, right above Wanchai's business district, narrow Bowen Road makes one of Hong Kong's nicest "above the city" trails, providing an easy walk with lovely cityscape views, as well as lots of fabulous greenery... You can enjoy outstanding views across Happy Valley and the north side of HK Island from here, including Wan Chai, Victoria Harbour and Kowloon, and there is even an auspicious rock above the trail, called "Lover's Rock", which is said to have the power of giving happy marriages.

Next in line is Stubbs Road Lookout, just a few bus stops up the road. (Take the same bus No. 15 and drop off at a stop called White Jade: The lookout is just a short stroll below it). The views from here are spectacular and since they are somewhat different to the ones of Bowen Road, it makes sense to make a few minutes' stop and take some nice photos.

If you have plenty of time and museums are your thing, ride one more stop up Stubbs Road, to Wan Chai Gap Road and take a short walk to the Hong Kong Police Museum (HKPM) on neighboring Coombe Road. The museum focuses on the history of the city's police force and boasts more than a few interesting exhibits, including old uniforms, firearms, hand painted portraits of 19th century senior officers and more... Entrance is free.

That is it... From here you can continue with bus route No. 15 all the way to the Peak and enjoy everything it has to offer... On your way down you can ride the Peak Tram, so you don't miss this spectacular ride either.
